Fine Art Oil Paintings
My paintings and prints capture landscapes that are part imagined, part real.
I wander the beaches of the San Juan Islands with my camera, framing the geology and flora, the flotsam and jetsam the sea tosses in. I study the ways people interact with the landscape—driftwood shelters, firepits, shrines and cairns—and how light interacts with what has been built. Then I draw and paint with charcoal, ink and oils to capture their abstract strangeness.
A driftwood-scattered beach is a forest of symbols, like bones tossed, runes to be read, dark thresholds taking us into to dream worlds.

Oil paintings on oil paper, lit from within, create a “moon” on the ceiling.
These pieces are 48 inches tall, and are displayed with changing light patterns.
