San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau

  • Marketing Coordinator (6 years)

  • Coordinated new website build with outside vendor and built the site. Created a blog and populated dozens of blog posts and other pages.

  • Coordinated outside vendors to create video & promotional collateral

  • Created and coordinated social media campaigns

  • Taught workshops on marketing for community business owners

  • Blogging & Writing

I started and wrote a blog and many other articles for the Visit San Juans website, which gets more than 3 million unique visitors per year. I also wrote many press releases for the Visitors Bureau.

We had a small 5-person staff to coordinate the website, media visits, member relations with 150 member businesses over 3 main islands, quarterly meetings & training, outside vendors, and more.

  • Photography

I traveled the county to photograph and highlight local businesses, and blog about them. I also coordinated outside, paid bloggers, and created itineraries for visiting writers from national and regional media, including the New York Times, Travel & Leisure magazine, and more.

  • Campaigns

The Visitors Bureau created 4-6 seasonal campaigns per year, and I helped coordinate the ideas, promotional collateral and press engagement. One of our main campaigns was to educate the public in conservation issues surrounding travel. In this role, I had to balance the needs of several stakeholders, often with opposing viewpoints, to create and reach common goals.
